“If you fail, you try again,” that is a life motto that has been instilled within my values as a young child. Coming from immigrant parents, I was born in Iran. Faced with detrimental war threat, my parents were forced to uproot my family. So we moved to Switzerland. Having regained stability in this foreign land my parents yearned for our extended family. Therefore, one more try meant one more move, leading us here to the United States of America. It is here, that I discovered that women’s rights prevail in society and it is where I learned that I wanted to be part of the movement to empower not only my self as a young female but also all the women of every age and origin.
My journey with the YWCA of Glendale began at age seventeen as a receptionist. I was given the opportunity to work for ENCORE plus on weekends as a program specialist. Then, I worked myself up as the program director. I have been fascinated with the great work ENCORE plus does. ENCORE plus help’s uninsured and medically underserved women receive free Mammograms and Clinical Breast Exams (CBE’s). One out of seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Empowering women and eliminating racism has changed my life completely. The values that I have learned at the YWCA of Glendale has helped me make very important decisions in my life. My goal in life is to eliminate racism and empower women.
