Amid years of decline in pool usage, rising operating costs and anticipated reinvestment, YWCA Glendale will permanently close its swimming pool and end its aquatics program on Dec. 31, 2017.
“According to recent assessments, the pool, locker rooms, pipes and pumps all will require major capital reinvestments. These reasons, along with the declining number of aquatics participants, have led us to the decision to close our pool,” explains Executive Director Tara Peterson, “Continuing to operate it at a deficit undermines the health of our other programs. This decision, while difficult, ensures we can continue to provide Camp Y for youth, operate our Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter, and provide case management, child care, counseling, legal advocacy and more to women and children leaving abusive circumstances.”
