YWCA Glendale is honored to recognize Michele Yi with the 2020 Cami’s Courage Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was created in honor of Cami Burton, the daughter of our dear friend and former YWCA Glendale Board Member, Carol Ann Burton. A scholarship of $1,000 is presented each year to an exceptional female high school senior who makes significant contributions to their community.
Michele Yi is a senior at Crescenta Valley High School whose significant accomplishments and leadership in academia, extracurricular activities, and community service have earned her the 2020 Cami’s Courage Memorial Scholarship. Michele has maintained a 4.5 GPA and currently serves as the National Honor Society President. She is interested in pursuing a career in Health Management and Business. Michele is fluent in English, Spanish and Korean. She is an accomplished pianist and is a valued member of the audition-based Symphonic Orchestra for her four years of high school.
In June 2017, Michele founded the MeToWeCV Club at Crescenta Valley, a campus service club focused on supporting survivors of sexual assault and education efforts in rural China. Since its inception, Michele has served as the Club’s President, pursuing and securing a corporate action grant to support its activities. In addition to this leadership role, Michele also holds the following community service roles: Intern at her local Chamber of Commerce, the Secretary for Key Club, Librarian and President for a music ensemble which performs at retirement homes, and a volunteer for USC Verdugo Hills Hospital where she reformed the Pet Therapy policy at the hospital and advocated for adding an interview component to the volunteer placement procedure.
We are inspired by Michele’s leadership and cannot wait to see what she accomplishes next!
