Last week we participated in @ca_partnership's annual #PolicyAdvocacyDay. Our advocates (👋 Hasmik!) spoke to elected officials about our top policy priorities for serving domestic violence victims and survivors. These priorities include stable funding for DV prevention work and advocating for SB 914, which addresses homelessness in domestic violence survivors by requiring cities and counties develop specific responses and counter economic abuse by giving survivors a way to prove their debts were coerced, thus stopping collection against the survivor.

Thank you to @ca_partnership, and everyone who attended, including Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, Senator Maria Elena Durazo, Assemblymember Chris Holden, and Senator Anthony Portantino!

Recently our Art Therapy Group was asked to create a project based on positive affirmations, what they've learned, statements of hope, and words of encouragement. Some of our participants consented to show their work and so their pieces are currently on display at our Glendale location (and of course, for you here! ⬆️🎨).

Studies have shown that Art Therapy benefits people both young and old; it can improve communication skills, help with anxiety, depression, and it can even help reduce feelings of isolation. 🧡

Today is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls. Current #FVPSA funding leaves many Tribes without the means to provide culturally-based advocacy and support for Native women, yet they face some of the highest rates of domestic violence.

Indigenous women continue to go missing and are murdered at alarming rates and access to Native-centered support services can be the difference between someone finding safety or going missing. For more information on how you can get involved, visit the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (@niwrc) at the link in bio. #MMIW

The #StandAgainstRacismChallenge is coming to a close and we'd like to thank all of you for participating this year! It is so important to make space to learn and we are so honored to work with you, our community, towards racial equity and social justice. Remember: just because the Challenge ends today doesn't mean the work does. And finally, a very special THANK YOU to @saybrook_university for all of your help this year - we couldn't have done it without you!

We are so ready for our Girls’ Empowerment Performing Arts Program to start next week! We are once again partnering with @antaeustheatre to teach girls the art of storytelling, writing, and performing through their professional actors and playwrights, including Ann Noble. Noble, a 25-year professional theatre veteran, was recently highlighted for her incredible work in and for our community, including her work with YWCA Glendale and Pasadena. We’ve linked that article in our stories so make sure you check it out!

And if you know any girls ages 10-16 who want to join Ann and the rest of Antaeus’ talented instructors, make sure you sign up at the link in our bio! 👇

“Those young girls were incredible,” said Kelsey Siepser, another one of Antaeus's incredible instructors. “We got to hold space for these amazing young women, to share their ideas and dreams and hopes and fears. It was really beautiful. I learned a lot, just watching Ann teach and the way she facilitated learning.”

It’s #NationalVolunteerWeek and we’d love to highlight a couple of our community volunteer orgs! Our TechGYRLS program is greatly served by our partnership with the amazing volunteer advisors and mentors from @caltechy and @caltechascit!

This past winter, our Girls’ Empowerment Program Manager, Jomie Liu, sat in @caltechy's Community Service and Advocacy Fair to recruit mentors and volunteers and there she met Annice Jackson, @sgvncnw’s Youth Director. @sgvncnw is a volunteer organization that aims to educate, empower, and advocate for African American women and their families in our community.
